Ellen was one of many people who came out to speak in opposition of the B.C government’s proposed Harmonized Sales Tax, at the Fight HST Rally in Vancouver in September 2009.
In February 2010, City of Vancouver Councilor Ellen Woodsworth participated in the Homelessness Relay Hunger Strike to advocate for a national housing plan that would be created by Bill C-304. This is a video of Elder Aline Laflamme blessing Ellen and of Myria Dumont passing the wooden spoon to Ellen.
In February 2010, Ellen visited the Grace MacInnis Housing Cooperative and talked about the scarcity of affordable social housing in the Lower Mainland.
In January 2010, Ellen attended the Annual General Meeting of Head Tax Families Society of Canada (HTFSC). Members of the HTFSC continue to fight for an inclusive, just and honourable redress for all families affected by the Chinese Head Tax.
Ellen was one of more than 75 audience members who participated in a creative, community-based oral history project during the 2009 Vancouver Queer Film Festival. The project was hosted by the Queer History Project and Artist-in-Residence local filmmaker Gwen Haworth (She’s A Boy I Knew).
In November 2009, Ellen spoke to Vancouver Media Coop about the demolition of the Little Mountain Housing, and the housing crisis in British Columbia.
In October 2008, Ellen participated in Think City’s “Dream Vancouver ‘08 Debate” and talked about the government responsibility to provide housing.
